Currently there are approximately 110 volunteer members of the Search
& Rescue Unit and it is hoped to eventually reach strength of 200. On
a normal call-out, only 25% are usually in a position to respond at
any given time.

The sheriff is also seeking financial donations to assist in
renovating a 1993 Winnebago to turn it into a "Command Vehicle" for
Search & Rescue. The sheriff purchased the Winnebago at a local
auction house for $4,500.00 with money that was donated by businesses
which paid to advertise in his Sheriff's Office calendar. It will take
approximately $6,000.00 more in donations to bring it up to the level
that is needed.

Anyone that would like to contribute to the Search and Rescue Unit can
do so by making a (501C) donation to the "Albemarle County Sheriff's
Office Foundation" Online.
